Visit by Ms. Ursula Saarback head of Pakistani Section at DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) on March 26, 2009
Two member delegations headed by Ms Saarback and accompanied by Ms. Katharina Lack First Secondary (Cultural) visited CIIT New Campus, Chak Shahzad to deliver lecture on:
"Study and Research in Germany"
Ms. Saarback delineated on the above topic at length. She pointed out the difference between a traditional university and university of Applied Sciences “Fachochschole”. She also told that admission costs are not exorbitant however admission criteria are very stringent. Her presentation highlighted many aspects of study at Germany like field of study, admission requirements, admission procedure, etc. Theses were aspects that were not known to a majority of the audience.
The presentation was followed by a question and answer session. Young faculty members and students took particular interest in the question and answer session. After the end of Ms. Saarback’s presentation, a small talk was given by Ms. Katharina Lack. She pointed out about the Embassy’s role and how applications should be made to the embassy for grant of student visas.
In the one to one conversation of Ms. Saarbeck and CIIT Rector, two major issues were discussed. The Rector pointed out that the big Pak-German university mega project was disbanded by the government due to various reasons. However a prestigious German university’s collaboration with our Vehari campus for the establishment of a university of applied sciences (“Fachochschole”) was desirable. In particular Vehari is an agrarian city so it will highly benefit from presence of an applied sciences institution.
Other issue that was discussed was the proposed twining of a German university with a CIIT campus. This will give synergy and mutual uplift to education in both collaborating institutions. Further CIIT Rector suggested that 2-3 post doctoral fellowships and sabbaticals may be offered to CIIT.
