World Book Day Celebration
World Book and Copyright Day is an occasion to pay a worldwide tribute to books and authors and to encourage people to discover the pleasure of reading. It is hoped that this will lead to the renewed respect for those who have made irreplaceable contributions to social and cultural progress. It is also hoped that World Book and Copyright Day will increase people's understanding of and adherence to copyright laws and other measures to protect intellectual copyright.
TWorld Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked all over the world. The initiative is so well established, we want to make sure that the Day happens in term time to really make the most of this opportunity to celebrate books and reading. Most of the countries hold World Book Day on 23rd April every year.
World Book Day is a partnership of publishers, booksellers and interested parties who work together to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment of all.
A main aim of World Book Day is to encourage students to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their choice in the libraries.
A WALK with banners and reading slogans was arranged by COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad, from its Gate No.1 to Library, inside its campus, on 22 April 2010 at 10.00 AM. To further support this aim, book fair, library mounted book exhibition with brochures and banners was also arranged in the CIIT library on the same day. Posters and banners were displayed in the Campus and library for giving massage to the students, faculty and staff, that there is a difference between information and knowledge and encourage them for reading.
The walk was inaugurated by The Chief Guest Prof. Dr Raheel Qamar (TI), Incharge Islamabad Campus at 10.00 hours and then witnessed the Book fair and library mounted book exhibition in the library. Refreshment was offered after the witnessing of the book fair and library mounted book exhibition.
