Faculty of Information Science and Technology
Dean: Prof. Dr.Asad Hussain
Welcome to the faculty of Information sciences and technology.
True to our claims we dare say that our faculty of Information sciences and technology has all the hallmarks that ought to be present in to-day’s competitive world. Our dynamism to adapt to the changing times in respect of our courses, hiring of the requisite faculty and nearly dogged pursuit of our students after they have left our doors till they get good jobs is a pride of ours. We also strive to give atmosphere to our students where they feel at home not only in satisfying their academic queries we cater to their non non-academic needs such as admissions, career counseling, job hunting and above all make them people of principles and letters.
Information Science is a unique area in many respects. We have a unique faculty & graduate program structure. The faculty has special connections with leading industries. The faculty is committed to interdisciplinary research. Computer Science departments are intensely involved in joint projects with faculty members in other departments producing world class research. The proof of this commitment is publication of papers in journals and conferences of international repute.
Our mission of the multidisciplinary Health Informatics Program is to “develop health care systems as information environments." A useful model of the emergence of informatics is to consider different roles of clinicians, management and IT services in health care. Health Informatics is the science of information management in healthcare and its application to support clinical practice, decision-making and research.
We have 30 PhDs in different areas of computer science and IT from reputable institutions of the world and more than two thousand students in campuses of CIIT. These faculty members are engaged in international level research and teaching.
I wish you best of luck
Faculty Dean
Prof. Dr. Syed Asad Hussain
(PhD)
(Queen’s University Belfast UK)
Short Profile of Dean
[Professor Syed Asad Hussain obtained his PhD in computer networks from Queen’s University Belfast UK and his MSc from University of Wales, Cardiff, UK. He joined COMSATS as assistant professor in August 2005 and later promoted to associate professor and head of computer science CIIT Lahore. Presently he is working as a professor in CS and Dean Faculty of information sciences and technology. His interests are in the areas of active and programmable networks, wireless and mobile networks, networks modeling and simulation. He has published more than 40 research papers. He has written a book “Active and Programmable Networks for Adaptive Architectures and Services”. This book is published by Taylor & Francis USA. A member of IEEE, he has served on technical program committees and on organizing committees of several conferences. He also regularly reviews papers of several international journals and conferences.
- To prepare the skilled manpower in the area of CS, in particular to meet the IT needs of the Southern World.
- To target that fifty percent of the faculty is PhD so that PhD programs run smoothly and high targets of research profile are achieved.
- To share our IT skills and expertise with the outer world countries.
- To provide IT industry, through research and graduate studies, with skills, ideas, and innovations in areas of advanced technologies.
- To leverage the centrality of the technological position of Pakistan in Muslim world.
- To strengthen the Research & Development relations with the western world by starting new collaborative research projects.
- To promote sustainable development through knowledge creation.
Teaching Curricula and Ethical Training
The Curricula and training programs for CIIT are designed keeping in view:
- The provision of ethical responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness and making teachings of Islam – a passion and tolerance.
- The thrust and trends in computer science and IT.
- The skills that match the market needs for manpower.
- The measures to develop liaison with industry not only by solution of their problems but also in terms of students’ internship.
- Technical and major electives are to be taught in depth so as to prepare students for research and development.
Research
The research activities of the faculty include but are not limited to:
- To establish one centre of excellence in areas/sub areas of computer science under CS department of each and every campus depending upon the feasibility.
- We plan to establish a research center for open source tools and technologies by the end of 2010. Purpose of this research center will be to provide assistance to our industry to solve their IT related problems (e.g. ERP solutions) by using open source tools and technologies.
- Starting of a research journal of international repute by the Faculty.
- The faculty should be autonomous in funds in general and the research supervisors should have autonomy of research funds brought by them in particular.
- Motivating the faculty to start new research projects.
